Lest you think that Prairie Harvest is
the new kid on the specialty food block,
we'd like to fill you in on the background of the company founder.
Steve Hauff, also
the president of Prairie Harvest, began the company in 1997.
Headquartered in
Spearfish, South Dakota, Steve had just returned to the area. For many years, Spearfish
had been the place he called home.
In 1983, Steve had founded a company called Native Game, one of the first
companies to specialize in providing wild game to chefs across America. For over 25
years, Steve shared his love and knowledge of game with chefs, restaurateurs, caterers,
gourmands and the delighted hunter or two. He also helped to pioneer a broader
interest in wild game and saw that even the most cautiously curious cook was
converted.
As Steve continued to forge the food frontier, he saw Native Game grow to a
size larger than he had ever dreamed. It was very different than the
"hands-on" operation he loved - a place where he could work directly with chefs
- both amateur and professional.
Thus, in 1993, he decided to sell Native
Game. When the company relocated to another state, Steve went along to guide its
growth and development. After a couple of years, he longed to return to South
Dakota.
A move back to the sunny, prairie state allowed for the birth of yet
another game company; Prairie Harvest.
Nestled near the heart of the historic Black Hills, Prairie Harvest, is close
to the geographical center-of-the-nation. It's a perfect spot from which to ship
game meats and specialty foods to a nation of discerning and adventurous chefs! |
